GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A Gwinnett County middle school teacher who survived one of her students stabbing her with a butcher knife is calling on the school district to ban backpacks.
FOX 5 Atlanta media partner The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Trickum Middle School teacher Jennifer Guyre recently went before the Gwinnett County Board of Education to implore the district to ban backpacks, making it harder to bring concealed weapons onto campus.

She told the district she would prefer the bookbag ban to metal detectors.
Guyre was stabbed last October with a butcher knife, police said. Officers said the student went on to threaten a classmate following the stabbing, forcing Guyre to intervene despite her injuries.
Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks told the newspaper the district is open to looking into the request.
