The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an in-custody death in Coweta County.

Brandon Chesnee, 23, was found unresponsive in his jail cell Monday.

Chesnee was captured in Coweta County last month after his escape from the Cherokee detention center in South Carolina.

He crashed into three patrol cars during the high-speed chase northbound on Interstate 85, leaving one wrecking three patrol car and sending a deputy to the hospital with a broken rib. Officers said it took three PIT maneuvers to get Chesnee boxed in on the shoulder of the highway and eventually in custody.

He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing, theft by receiving stolen property, and multiple traffic charges. He was also wanted on charges in both North and South Carolina.

An autopsy will be performed Wednesday at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office.
