Local and state authorities surrounded an area in Bartow County Friday after a deputy shot a man who reportedly tried to run over the deputy.

The shooting took place at 4956 Country Lane near Acworth.

According to Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap, several deputies began a pursuit of a vehicle off Glade Road just after 12 p.m.

According to a tweet from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the deputies did not know the man was wanted out of Cartersville.

According to the tweet, a deputy wrecked his patrol vehicle during the chase.

The man then reportedly tried to run over the deputy, when the deputy fired a shot at him.

According to the GBI tweet, the man is alive but has suffered injuries. Sheriff Millsap said medics took the man to a local hospital.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the deputy.

Agents with the GBI responded to the scene early Friday afternoon to investigate the shooting.

A FOX 5 viewer sent a picture of the scene, showing a number of law enforcement vehicles and police crime scene tape.
