The crash happened Wednesday evening in Douglas County on Georgia Highway 5. Georgia State Patrol said 16-year-old Joshua Murphy was headed northbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when a vehicle struck the passenger side of his vehicle. He was killed in the wreck.

The driver of the other vehicle, which was a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, has been identified as 17-year-old Darien Whitfield. He was headed southbound when the wreck occurred. There were two other people in his car, according to GSP.

Whitfield was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. The two passengers, Reginald Benson and Pierre St. Brice, were both taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Murphy was a student at Chapel Hill High School where he played on the varsity football team. He was also a member of the Atlanta Revival Center.
