Defense attorney Hope Demps was stunned when a crime victim told her the Fulton County district attorney's victim advocate had sexually harassed her.
“I felt it was an abuse of power,” said Demps, an attorney with the metro Conflict Defender’s Office.
All this year, the FOX 5 I-Team has investigated the strange story of Wesley Vann. He is a popular, longtime advocate in the Fulton County DA's victim witness program.
Our investigation found during the past three years the Fulton County District Attorney’s office twice suspended Vann for improper conduct with either a crime witness or victim. But, District Attorney Paul Howard kept Vann, citing his “extraordinary” service as an advocate.
Now another crime victim has leveled accusations of improper conduct against Vann. According to a motion filed by her attorney, Vicki Reeves contends Wesley Vann sent texts to her that were “sexual in nature”
The District Attorney has now fired Vann, but won't say if it is related to Vicki Reeves' complaint.
Vann wouldn't say either but gave us the following statement:
"My efforts to secure right outcomes for victims and witnesses may have been deemed overreach by the people defending double murders, child molesters and wife/girlfriend beaters. However, my sole motivation was to secure justice for the people in these case who had suffered pain and tremendous loss. I always went above and beyond and scores of those whom I have helped will say so.
Because I am pursing legal action in this matter, I must refrain from commenting further."
