ATLANTA (AP) — Extreme drought conditions are now being felt in the city of Atlanta and more of its suburbs, though recent rains have eased dry conditions in some other parts of Georgia, the latest national report on the drought shows.
Extreme drought conditions have now spread into the city of Atlanta and many of its northern and northwest suburbs, including nearly all of Cobb County and most of Cherokee County, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor's report released Thursday.
Extreme drought conditions also exist in many of Atlanta's southern suburbs.
Elsewhere in Georgia, extreme drought conditions also are prevalent in northwest Georgia and in a few counties in northeast Georgia.
Rain in northeast Georgia led to a slight improvement in drought conditions in some counties, the report shows. However, little or no rain fell in the main areas of Georgia's drought.
