VILLA RICA, Ga. - It's the case of the missing fish at an attraction in Villa Rica.
But not just any fish. City leaders say six to eight Koi fish, which can go for $3,000 a piece, are gone from a pond at the Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park.
Officials want help identifying three men, they believe, may have been involved. David Milliron, city manager for Villa Rica, provided FOX 5 News with surveillance video and images from August 29. On that day, he said three men are seen entering the park, suspiciously, in a Ford Explorer. Park Museum Manager Wesley Berninger added the men held fishing rods.
"We couldn't believe that someone would come down here and just help themselves to fish," Berninger said. "...If you are able to keep it alive long enough, there may be resale value for it. But there is certainly no edible value in these fish."
Milliron said there is no plan to replace the stolen fish. However the city will invest in more surveillance cameras and additional 'no fishing' signs at the venue.
The persons of interests have the following descriptions: a white male wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts; a white male wearing a red shirt, orange hat and blue shorts; and a white male wearing a blue shirt, dark pants and a ball cap. The individuals were driving a SUV possibly with a North Carolina license plate, according to officers.
