Fire crews in DeKalb County worked early Thursday morning to contain a fast-moving brush fire near an apartment complex off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

What we know:

Officials say crews were called out around 2:30 a.m. to a wooded area behind the Dunwoody Glen Apartments near Nancy Creek, where flames had spread quickly through dry vegetation.

The fire burned an estimated two to five acres and proved difficult to access, prompting assistance from the Georgia Forestry Commission to bring in additional equipment.

What they're saying:

Authorities say the fire is now fully contained, with crews remaining on scene to put out lingering hot spots. No injuries were reported.

Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire, noting that extremely dry conditions mean even something as small as a discarded cigarette could ignite flames.

What you can do:

Fire officials are urging residents to use caution and properly extinguish any potential ignition sources as drought conditions continue across the region.
