Leaders in DeKalb County gathered Friday morning to demolish a blighted residential property in the Stone Mountain area.

The home, located on West Mountain Street, had been a concern for neighbors for years, with reports of ongoing issues and activity at the property.

What they're saying:

"We are a pretty tight-knit community in this area. So we all drive by — I actually drive by here to get home every day — so I personally seen a lot of the activity, and it has been a problem for a long time," one resident said.

County officials said the demolition was part of a broader effort to address blight and improve neighborhoods across DeKalb.

Since 2019, the county has demolished or cleared more than 450 properties and launched inspections across unincorporated areas.

Officials say the work is ongoing as they continue responding to community concerns and working to strengthen neighborhoods.
