Floyd County - A horrible tragedy in Floyd County leaves parents, teachers and students turning to each other for strength. Two long-time educators at Glenwood Primary in Rome died in a car crash Friday night.
60-year old Marsha Coleman and 45-year old Christi Mooney were in the same car Friday night when they collided with a pickup on GA 140 in Floyd County. The women and the driver of the truck, 30-year old Ricardo Clarke were all killed.
Marsha Coleman was a paraprofessional. Christi Mooney was a kindergarten teacher. They taught side by side in the same classroom for 19 years. Monday night fellow teachers, students and parents gathered outside Glenwood Primary for a prayer service. "We're sad and we hurt, and we miss these two precious women," says Allison Post whose daughter was in their class last year.
Ms. Mooney's brother, Dewayne Carver, says Christi wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a toddler. "This morning I had a vision of my sister in a white robe in heaven and all these little children gathered around her," says Carver.
The devastation was clearly visible on the faces of their fellow teachers. During the service they cried and hugged one another.
For the students, who are just 5 and 6 years old, it's a life lesson that is hard to understand. "She had a lot of questions about what happened and how she wouldn't be able to see her any more," says Anna Teems who is the mom of a daughter in kingergarten and another in first grade.
Extra counselors will be at the school Tuesday morning. They'll be available to talk to the students and staff who are having a difficult time coping with the loss of their teachers.
