Cobb County Officer Suspended for Comments

A Cobb County officer accused of making what critics called racially-charged comments to a driver has been suspended.

Officer Maurice Lawson has been suspended by the county for 80 hours without pay for the incident. The decision was announced Friday after a lengthy investigation.

Officer Lawson was seen on dash cam video making what county has decided were inappropriate comments to Brian Baker, who is black. Baker is a Clayton County Middle School teacher, and filed a complaint right after the November incident.

Lawson’s suspension will begin on Jan. 25.
