UPDATE (March 25, 2019):

Charges have been dismissed against a New Jersey man arrested by Conyers police in April 2018 and accused of human trafficking, according to prosecutors. The Rockdale County District Attorney said the evidence against Brad Gaskins was insufficient to go forward with the case.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Conyers police said a young woman forced to have sex with strangers in a motel on Old McDonough Highway is now safe and back home in Seattle, Washington while 36-year-old Brad Gaskins sits in the Rockdale County Jail. Investigators charged him on April 13th with human trafficking for sexual servitude.

"He met the young victim, who is just 20-year-old, in Atlanta. She had just taken a one-way flight from Seattle a couple of weeks earlier, had fallen on hard times and is now homeless. Mr. Gaskins moved her into a hotel room next to his where she performed sexual services in exchange for money," Sergeant Buck Vaughn told FOX 5's Portia Bruner.

According to police, Gaskins forced the woman to stay in the motel room at all times and refused to let her use her phone. Investigators say he used a popular online dating app to create a profile for the victim.

"That was all designed to lure customers to the victim. But he managed it and arranged all of the encounters. Our victim attempted to leave on several occasions, but he would not let her go," said the Conyers police sergeant.

Investigators applaud the social worker in Seattle, Washington who called Conyers police and requested a welfare check. According to the police report, the victim called the social worker and asked for help getting away from Gaskins.

According to the spokeswoman for the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Gaskins is charged with aggravated sodomy, in addition to the sex trafficking charge. He remains in the Rockdale County jail with no bond. Conyers police say the New Jersey man was also in possession of a suspended New Jersey driver’s license.
