Buckhead Woman Creates 'Wishing Tree' in Front Yard

Do you have a wish this holiday season? If so, there's a spot in Buckhead that you might want to go visit.

Thanksgiving weekend, Debra Minkley created a "Wishing Tree" in her front yard. There you will find a dogwood tree with a small sign telling visitors to write down a wish on one side of a paper tag and to record something you're grateful for on the other side. Glass jars are left out for visitors to leave their wishes and then Minkley takes it from there.

"The idea is kind of to throw them to the wind," Minkley told Reporter Newspapers

Minkley collects the wishes, waterproofs them and then hangs them on the tree. She was the first one to make a wish and since then dozens of other wishes have joined hers.

“There’s all kinds of different things up there,” Minkley said. “I love that part.”

Minkley said she got the idea after learning about a similar tree in San Francisco, according to Reporter Newspapers. Since it was created, people passing by have been deeply touched.

"Major props to the family that created this Wishing Tree," said FOX 5 viewer Chelsea Kane.

Kane said it's refreshing to know there are still genuine people in this crazy world.

If you would like to visit the Wishing Tree, it's located in the 4100 block of Powers Ferry Road, which is right across the street from the Chastain Park golf course.
