Police in Atlanta said they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for the death of a 9-month old baby.

The child's mother, Jasmine Jones, told police she went to work November 9 and left her three children with a neighbor in her Southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

The 26-year-old mother said she received a call at work, saying little Monte had been rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spaulding Hospital.

Police said the mother was cooperative. They also said little Monte had extensive injuries and died two days later.

"He has some old injuries. I believe this child has been abused for some time. The injuries are kind of all over," Lt. Charles Hampton said.

Officers said they took Jaquest Norris into custody for the child's death. Investigators said he was interviewed and charged with the murder Sunday.

Police said Jasmine Jones' other two children are in DFACS custody.
