DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. - The 911 audio from a deadly deputy shooting has been released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The tapes shed a little more light into what happened that night.

The state agency is looking into the shooting death of Bobby Daniels by a Douglas County Sheriff deputy last week. The sheriff's office said Deputy Daniels fired shots when the 48-year-old pointed a weapon at him. However, Bobby Daniels' wife, Cynthia, said he was a security guard who would never point a weapon at law enforcement.
The family’s attorney, Chris Stewart, said the father of five was only trying to defuse the situation between deputies and his son. Stewart added they have multiple witnesses who confirm Daniels did not point a gun at deputies, never had control of the gun, and was doing everything he could to stop his son from getting the weapon and using it on anyone.
A news release sent to FOX 5 News by the law firm states Daniels was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and employed as a security guard at Turner/CNN at the time of his death.
According to the release, Daniels was restraining his son and trying to protect members of law enforcement who were responding to a situation involving Daniels' son when he was shot at a distance by a deputy with an AR-15.
The release states, “The family disputes the account being presented by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department and GBI. According to witnesses, at no point did Bobby Daniels ever point a weapon at any officer, contrary to what law enforcement has stated.”
After the shooting, Sheriff Phil Miller asked the GBI to independently investigate the shooting.
Authorities have said the incident started as a kidnapping call from a security guard at a mobile home park in Douglas County.
According to a GBI news release, the security guard “reported that he had been held at gunpoint by an unknown person while he was making his rounds. The deputies were approached by an individual identified as Garrett Daniels, who told them that a man with a gun was on the next street from where they were located.”
According to the release, the deputies moved to the adjacent street and observed a dark SUV and a white sedan on the roadway.
The release states, “In front of the dark SUV was the armed individual, subsequently identified as Bias Daniels, 25. Deputies instructed Bias Daniel to put the weapon down. As Bias put the gun down, one of the individuals located at the white sedan moved in and grabbed the gun at which point a struggle for the gun ensued. The individual was identified as Bobby Daniels, 48, who is also the father of Bias. As Bobby and Bias continued to fight for the gun, deputies shouted verbal commands to them to put down the weapon. One of the deputies fired his Taser striking Bias. The Taser deployment was ineffective in that the struggle continued and neither were affected by it. As the fight continued between Bias and Bobby, the handgun was pointed at the deputies, at which point one of the deputy fired, striking and killing Bobby. The gun fell to the ground at which point Bias picked it up and ran away. The deputies pursued Bias and fired one shot, missing him. Bias was apprehended a short time later hiding in the mobile home park. The handgun was also recovered in close proximity to where Bias was captured. “
Deputies took Bias Daniels into custody and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Obstruction and Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
The deputy, whose name also hasn’t been released, was not injured.
The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, which is standard procedure in a police shooting.
The GBI will turn over its findings to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
