ATLANTA - A new car has appeal, but it comes with a higher price attached. There are ways to chip away at that sticker price by picking the right time to shop.
Beyond learning some negotiation strategies - like Internet shopping and coming into the deal with your own financing -- you can navigate toward "best deal" shopping days.
3 WAYS TO SAVE
Let's start with Black Friday. Car shopping doesn't necessarily come to mind, but dealers are starting to use this day to jump start its end-of-year sales. And there's no rush like you might find in an electronics store. You can take your time and shop.
And that brings us to the "end of" deals. End of the day when the salesperson might be interested in cutting a deal and heading home.
End of month could mean your salesperson is interested in meeting a monthly sales quota. And by the way, according to AutoTrader, end of month deals are juicier in March, June, September and December.
And of course December is end of year when dealers try to clear out last year's model. Great deals, but there will be fewer options as inventory will be low.
Finally, holidays, particularly Labor Day. It's a big sales holiday and this is when the new models are starting to arrive in showrooms. Meaning, old ones have to go. But keep an eye out for big sales events over Memorial Day, Fourth of July and even Thanksgiving.
