Trump responds to Democrats' sweeping midterm victories

President Donald Trump congratulated Democrats after they regained control of Congress in a sweeping midterm election victory but rejected suggestions that the results were a referendum on his presidency. "Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job," Trump said, adding that he did not view the losses as a personal setback. Democrats flipped seven Senate seats to secure a 54-seat majority and gained 25 House seats. The election also brought historic victories in Michigan, New Mexico and Texas, including the election of the nation's first Muslim U.S. senator.
