Heavy overnight rainfall continues to cause dangerous flooding in North Georgia, where 5 to 7 inches of rain sent the Toccoa River surging to 16.3 feet in McCaysville, approaching its record of 17 feet. Flash flood emergencies remain in effect near the Tennessee state line, with evacuations underway. Meanwhile, metro Atlanta will see a mostly cloudy, muggy Thursday with a few light showers and temperatures in the 70s. Patchy morning fog, especially in northwest Georgia, should improve by late morning. Cooler weather arrives this weekend, with highs dropping to 66 degrees Saturday and 67 Sunday. Overnight lows will fall into the mid-40s, with seasonable temperatures continuing into next week.
