DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A suspect who, police say, dropped a handgun while fleeing a traffic stop in DeKalb County has been arrested, according to police.
Marques Gaines, 26, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, theft by receiving stolen firearm and felony obstruction.
On Thursday, an officer reportedly stopped a vehicle in the 3000 block of Ember Drive Thursday. Police say Gaines, the occupant of the vehicle, got out and ran. As the officer ran after him, police say Gaines dropped a handgun. He tried to pick up the weapon as the officer approached him and the officer discharged his weapon, officials said. Gaines was not hit.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
