REX - Rex neighbors were asked to stay indoors, or kept back from their homes, during a standoff on Bretton Drive that resulted in the suspect ultimately turning himself in.
The ordeal in the Rex community lasted several hours.
"I'm tired, want to go home. My grandkids are in the car," said one woman, who was ultimately escorted to her home.
Clayton County police said they showed up at the home, searching for an individual who was visiting his friend at the house on Bretton Drive. Police said Sean Burch had a warrant for a probation violation for an arson-related case.
Officers said he barricaded himself in a crawl space, tried to light several fires and threatened officers. A press release later said Burch was unsuccessful in his attempts to start these fires.
"After the subject barricaded himself in the crawl space, he told the police officers and the sheriff's deputies he was negotiating with, he had two weapons," said Interim Chief Michael Register.
Chief Register said the man ultimately had only a knife, and after hours of negotiations, surrendered peacefully.
