ROSWELL, Ga. - A Cobb County family is crediting a smoke detector for their safety after they escaped a fire in their home Monday.
The fire broke out early Monday morning at a house on Moss Ridge Court. Jamie Calabrese, one of the homeowners, said the smoke detector woke her up and she was then able to help six other people, including three children, get out of the home. She also saved her four dogs.
"We're really lucky," Calabrese told FOX 5. "The rest of it is stuff. We got everybody and everybody is okay. Even our pets are okay."
Fire officials said no one was hurt.
Investigators believe the fire started in the back of the house and spread to the attic.
