Ron Gant stepping away from Good Day Atlanta after 14 years

For the past 14 years, Ron has been a staple of our mornings—bringing warmth, grace, and smiles into homes across North Georgia. From his unforgettable days on the field with the Braves to every single morning here on FOX 5, Ron has truly become a part of our extended family.

Next Wednesday, October 21st, will be Ron Gant’s final day as an anchor on FOX 5's Good Day Atlanta.

Ron announced Friday that he plans to retire from FOX 5 after 14 years as a morning anchor at the station.

In a social media post about his decision to retire, Ron said he plans to remain in the Atlanta area, and will travel back and forth to Texas where he has family.

In making his announcement, Ron expressed his appreciation to the viewers who have watched him throughout his career as an anchor. "Thank you guys so much. You’ve been so supportive… You’re always going to be part of my life no matter what. And I thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all the support and love you’ve shown me over the years," Ron said.

FOX 5’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Bill Schneider said, "Ron Gant has been helping North Georgia wake up with a smile for more than a decade. His transition from the baseball field to the anchor desk showed that his greatest talent goes beyond sports or broadcasting - it's his ability to connect with people. Working alongside Ron for the past 14 years has been an absolute privilege. He brought dedication, warmth and genuine care to our newsroom every single morning. While we will miss his presence immensely, we couldn’t be happier for him as he begins this next chapter and enjoys more time with his family. Ron isn’t just a phenomenal broadcaster - he is a wonderful human being in every sense of the word."

Before joining FOX 5, Ron enjoyed a 16 year career in Major League Baseball, the first seven of those years with the Atlanta Braves. Ron began his broadcasting career as a baseball analyst shortly after retiring as a player.

The good news? Ron isn't leaving Atlanta! You’ll still see him around town, on the golf course, and continuing his work with the Braves.

Please join us in celebrating Ron between now and next Wednesday, and share your favorite memories and warm wishes!
