COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A Cobb County woman is praising her husband for staying cool and calm under pressure as he delivered their baby girl early Wednesday morning.
Tara and Justin Kaplan were rushing to drop off their 7- and 9-year-old sons at her mother's home in Powder Springs around 7 a.m., so that could get to Wellstar Kennestone hospital to give birth.
"By the time we got to my mama's house, the baby was coming. Her head was building out and I told him to call 911 because I wasn't going to be able to make it through rush hour traffic," Tara Kaplan told FOX 5's Portia Bruner a day after the unexpected delivery.
Mr. Kaplan said he knew he had to stay calm when his mother-in-law panicked.
"She just freaked out and went back in the house. Then I freaked out, but the 911 operator promised to talk me through it. But all it took was one push and Paisley was here. So I just wiped her nose, wrapped her up and the ambulance arrived five minutes later," Kaplan said from his wife's hospital room.
Paisley, who weighed in at 6.1 pounds, was scheduled to be delivered December 7. But the couple suspects their trip to Provino's Italian Restaurant in Kennesaw set Tara's contractions into motion. Many pregnant women say the eggplant parmesan is known for triggering labor within days of consumption.
"It worked for me for my first son, not sure about the second, but I think it must have worked for this one too because when we went on Tuesday, I hadn't dilated and the baby hadn't dropped yet. Then Thursday, here we are," Tara said with a smile. "I'm just proud of my husband. Most men would've passed out and he just acted like he does this every day for a living. After ten years of marriage, this was such a special bond for us."
