GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A teenager was robbed at gunpoint while walking home from school. Gwinnett County police said it happened Wednesday afternoon near Shiloh High School.
Investigators said three robbers held a student up at gunpoint, forcing him to hand over some of his belongings. The victim told police he had spotted the individuals hanging out around the campus prior to the reported crime.
“He was extremely afraid and angry at the same time,” said Genisha Morton, who displayed a flood of emotion discussing her son’s robbery.
Morton said her son was on Valley Brook Road when he noticed the light blue car going in the opposite direction.
“They drove past him, shouting something out the window, but he figured they were just being rowdy and kept walking,” said Morton.
Moments later, Morton’s son told police the trio got out of the car, walked behind him, took his necklace and continued with the demands.
“’If I wanted to take it, I could take it,’ and he pulled out a gun so my son gave him the watch,” Morton said describing the robbers demands.
“This is very traumatic situation for any person and more so a child to go through,” said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Deon Washington.
Cpl. Washington said detectives are looking into the incident.
“It's possible that the suspects are students or former students that particular school,” said Washington. “We are working very closely with the school resource officers who work at that school and we expect that the suspects will be identified shortly.”
“We have been here for year and never had any problems. So, I don't know where this is coming from all of sudden, but I guess that is the kind of world we live in now until police catch her son's attackers,” said Morton.
But she has a message for those robbers.
“It's our stuff. It's what we work for and it's what I've paid for and it's not fair for you to just come and decide for whatever reason you want to prove you are a man and you want to prove you got some kind of power that's not right for you to destroy someone else's confidence in who they are”
