Police identify couple killed in apparent murder-suicide
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - A murder-suicide early Tuesday morning in Stone Mountain left a husband and wife dead.
Police were called out to a home on Wetherborn Place around 12:40 a.m. Responding officers found Clifford Elston, 34, and his wife, Shayla Sullivan, 35, shot to death in the garage.
Sullivan's mother, Linda Ward, 68, was also injured in the shooting. Police said a bullet struck her in the foot.
Ward was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition.
Detectives said the preliminarily investigation points to a murder-suicide. According to police, Elston left the home during an earlier fight. Once he returned, police said he shot Sullivan, Ward and then turned the gun on himself.
The couple's two children, 12 and 14, were downstairs, when the shots were fired. Detectives don't think the kids witnessed what happened.
