BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - Two Brookhaven Police officers are being thanked for their excellent service after rescuing a family during flooding.
On Christmas Eve Bruce and Ellen of Brookhaven found themselves stranded in knee deep water behind a shopping center on Peachtree Road along with their daughter who is in a wheelchair.
The family was trapped inside their lift van, unable to get out. The windows were not working and they were afraid to open the doors for fear that water would come in.
After calling 911, Brookhaven police arrived. The family says Officer McIntosh waded through the water; made sure they were ok and told them not to open the doors.
Officer Patton then took off his shoes and rolled up his pants and together the two officers pushed the vehicle out of the water.
The officers offered to call a tow truck or wait until AAA arrived. They also offered to get a car seat to transport the daughter.
The family was so moved by the Officers help and kindness that they posted a heartfelt thank you letter on The Brookhaven Police Department’s Facebook page.
