COBB COUNTY, Ga. - An armed robber is behind bars after Cobb County police said an iPhone App led them to the crook.
Police said the armed robber came into the Palm Beach Tan salon on Chastian Road just after 11 a.m. Thursday.
"The individual came in, indicated that he had a weapon, she never saw a weapon, but more or less had his hand in the coat type of situation, and she became concerned, and at that point he began demanding money and her personal items," Sergeant Dana Pierce said.
Investigators said the man, John Antonio Lopez of Kentucky, took the employees phone and drove off in her car. But, what Lopez did not realize is that the phone has the "Find My iPhone" app.
Pierce said the officer tracked Lopez to the Publix on Barrett Parkway less than three miles away from the tanning salon, and just minutes after the robbery took place.
"He had just pulled into the Publix when the officers swarmed in and took him into custody without incident," Pierce said.
Officers were able to recover all the victim's items. Lopez is charged with armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon during a felony.
