MABLETON, Ga. - Crooks target a Cobb County gun shop, and it's not the first time. The owner of Dixie Gun & Pawn says his business has been broken into 18 times.
Jimmy Groover says he's done everything professional security folks have told him to do. He puts the guns in safes every night. He's also added cameras, bars on the windows and protective film on the glass. But crooks keep trying to break-in. “If you got guns, you're a target,” says Groover.
Groover says it's disgusting to watch the surveillance video of two masked men smashing through the front glass window of his Mableton business. In the video the men are seen jumping over the counter and searching the store. One man can be seen walking off with a shotgun.
Groover says this time, they didn't get much, but they did hundreds of dollars in damage. He says it couldn't have happened at a worse time.
Just 17 months ago he was out of work after a devastating fire. The fire started in a neighboring business and quickly spread through the strip mall. He says he was just starting to build his business back up, and once again was targeted by thieves.
The surveillance video shows the burglars driving off in a burgundy Nissan. Groover says he has learned from investigators that the car was reported stolen from a nearby gas station less than 24 hours earlier.
