Atlanta firefighter injured battling apartment fire

ATLANTA - An Atlanta firefighter is recovering this morning after he was injured while fighting a blaze in Northeast Atlanta.

It happened at the Brookwood Valley apartment complex on the 2000 block of Peachtree Road around 6:50 on Saturday night.

Firefighters say that when they arrived flames were coming out of an attic on the third floor.

The residents were not home at the time. The apartment suffered extensive damage and the three units underneath after suffered water and smoke damage.

Officials told FOX 5 the injured firefighter was hit in the head by debris and taken to the hospital for observation. He's currently in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
