ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The drama surrounding R. Kelly has taken another turn after an attorney representing two women who have accused the R&B star of sexual abuse was arrested.
Michael Avenatti was arrested Monday on charges that he tried to extort millions of dollars from Nike and embezzled a client's money to pay his own expenses.
The 48-year-old was charged with extortion and bank and wire fraud in separate cases in New York and California. He was arrested in New York.

Atlanta-area attorney Gerald Griggs represents Jonjelyn and Timothy Savage in Atlanta in their claim the musician has been holding their daughter against her will issued the following statement Monday evening:
"The effect of the arrest of Michael Avenatti for unrelated allegations by the Justice Department is problematic for Mr. Avenatti. However, the effect against the R. Kelly case will be minimal as the ten charges are based on four independent accusers and other information independent of Mr. Avenatti. The Savage family continues to seek reunification with their daughter, and that process of justice continues on course for all the alleged victims of Robert Sylvester Kelly."

Avenatti rose to national prominence by representing Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, in a lawsuit to break a confidentiality agreement to speak about her alleged affair with Trump.
