ATLANTA - Atlanta police said armed robbers were clearly on a mission when they ambushed employees the AT&T store at Ansley Mall Shopping Center around 8 p.m. September 11.
“It was a complete takeover. The walked in and ordered employees to the ground, held them at gunpoint as one went to the back and emptied the safe," said Atlanta Police Department’s Sgt. Warren Pickard.
Within minutes, the men in hoods cleared the storage safe of 200 iPhones and iPads. Sgt. Pickard said hoodies in the heat should be a clear sign of trouble to come for retailers.
“At this time of day and this time of the year with the weather as nice and as hot as it's been, any men bundled up in hoodies walking into a business should be alarming. People need to be aware of their surroundings,” Sgt. Pickard added.
No one from the Piedmont Avenue store was authorized to comment on camera about the crime, but a store manager confirmed none of her employees were injured.
Police said the robbers face serious charges and so does anyone who is lined up to buy the stolen devices.
“You can be charged with being a party to the crime of theft by receiving. This is just a ploy for the bad guys to make money. The best thing anyone can do at this point is just look at the security video and tell us who these guys are so we can get them off the street,” Sgt. Pickard added.
No one was injured during the incident.
