It’s not something seen every day in Atlanta. All four lanes of busy Peachtree Street in Midtown were closed to traffic as the NFL Honors Program set up around the Fox Theatre. It’s a big show for Super Bowl guests and requires a lot of room for TV trucks and a red carpet.

While many await the red carpet, drivers are trying to avoid that red zone.

"Oh, Wow! Navigating Atlanta traffic… You know what they say, the Bulldogs are red, the Falcons are red, and the traffic on your Waze is red," said motorist Jennifer Ladd.

Ladd, an Atlanta native and Midtown driver said navigating around town all week has been a practice in patience.

"I'm making it through but getting a little angry here and there, frustration is defiantly there, so make sure you mentally prepare yourself for the frustration, because it is going to come," said Ladd.

Peachtree Street between Ponce De Leon and 3rd Street are closed for that aforementioned event. Saturday, Northside Drive will shut down between Ivan Allen, Jr. Blvd. and M.L. King Drive.

Andrew Young International Blvd. will be closed between Marietta St. and Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NW and numerous detours are in place.

As more roads like this one close down, MARTA officials urge travelers to take advantage of rail and rideshare. But for those who just have to be on the roadway, Ladd offers some advice.

"Just be on high alert and watch out," Ladd said.
