Sources told FOX 5 News the student was treated for a non-life threatening stab wound to her arm.

DeKalb County school resource officers remained at the school to investigate the incident and talk to the parents of the two girls.

The mother of the 13-year-old girl accused of the stabbing told FOX 5's Portia Bruner her daughter's school file indicates the girl has autism and should not have access to sharp objects.

"It's in the IEP. No scissors. No knives. Nothing sharp at all because she has a hot temper. It's not that she instigates anything, but she will defend herself if she's picked on because she is such a small girl. She's only 91 pounds," said Donadeen Russell-Fungchoy.

The girl's mother told Bruner for her daughter has been in fights before, but nothing as serious as what led to the aggravated assault charge Wednesday morning.

"I feel bad that this happened to this little girl. I'd like to know how she is, but this never should have happened. I want to know who should have been supervising my daughter in that building," said the mother of the 13-year-old was taken into custody.

For privacy reasons, school officials could not elaborate on this students’ personal information but said school resource officers would continue their investigation into how and why the fight occurred.
