Hundreds gathered to say goodbye to a high school football player who died after being injured on the football field.

Pike County High School defensive lineman Dylan Thomas suffered a head injury Friday night in the game against Peach County.

Thomas died Sunday from his injury. The unexpected death has hit the small Pike county community hard. Red and black ribbons line lots of businesses and landmarks in town.

Dylan's parents asked all football players who attended the funeral to wear their game day jerseys in honor of their son.

"I just hope it makes you realize every day that you wake up is a great day and it's a tragic situation, but hopefully something good will come out if it for all involved," Peach County Head Coach Chad Campbell remarked.

The Pike County Pirates will return to the field Friday night in Macon against Rutland High School.
