Funeral arrangements for Pike County football player

The funeral arrangements for the Pike County High School football player who died after an injury Friday night were announced Tuesday afternoon.

Dylan Thomas, an eleventh-grade football player passed away Sunday evening after officials said he was injured during a varsity football game on Friday.

The injury happened during the third quarter. The Pike County Schools superintendent says the referee stopped play, an athletic trainer was called to the field, then Dylan was brought to the sideline, and he was communicating.

Medics rushed Dylan to Grady Memorial Hospital where he had emergency surgery but died Sunday.

Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon will be hosting friends and family on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a wake.

Funeral service will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Oak Hill Baptist Church located at 100 Lakeside Drive in Williamson. Dr. David Couch and Pastor Stephen Dervan will be officiating.

Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

The family would like for all football players (no matter which school) to wear their jerseys to the service.
