Suspect arrested in murder of DeKalb County mother of five
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police have arrested the suspected killer of a mother of five in DeKalb County.
Police said 30-year-old Keitran Foots brutally shot and killed his girlfriend and fled. DeKalb County police and deputies had been urgently searching for the man they consider armed and dangerous.
Now police in North Carolina's Granville County have caught Foots after officials received information that he was in the county. Officials attempted to arrest Foots at a motel and, after a chase, found him hiding underneath a carport just outside of Vance County.
The shooting happened on Friday morning around 10 a.m. in the 4700 block of Wyndam Drive, DeKalb County Police said the victim Sherika Bowman, 35, died after being shot multiple times.
Officials say Foots, who was Bowman's boyfriend at the time, approached her SUV parked in the driveway where they were both living and then fired into the vehicle. He then fled the scene in a black 2012 Hyundai Genesis with temporary tags.
SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene shortly before noon Friday, where there was a heavy police presence.
According to Police, Bowman's 16-year-old son was in the house during the shooting and he called 911.
Bowman was the mother of five children. She was LPN working on her license to become a registered nurse.
Neighbors who considered Bowman a good friend called the 35-year-old a loving mother who adored her children. They are afraid Foots could come back to the neighborhood and hurt someone else.
"Turn yourself in... do what's right as far as those babies are concerned," said neighbor Joyce Johnson. Johnson said she has surveillance cameras pointed at the family's residence; she said after loved ones took the children from the home, they left only belongings of Foots in the house.
Foots is now in the Granville County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
