Police: Rapper YNW Melly arrested for 2 murders in Florida

Rapper YNW Melly was arrested in Florida on two counts of murder, police said Wednesday.

Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, along with Cortlen Henry were arrested by the Miramar Police Department for the Oct. 26, 2018 murder of Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. Miramar Police said the two staged the scene to resemble a drive-by shooting.

 

 

Police said forensic evidence at the scene point to Demons and Henry. Both were charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

TMZ reports Demons took to his Instagram just before turning himself in to police, saying, "To all my fans and supporters ... I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y'all, a couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice.. unfortunately a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me."

The Gifford, Florida performer was considered an emerging artist who has collaborated with several notable rappers including Kanye West to produce his new album in Miami.

He was touring in support of that album. As of Wednesday evening, no word on the cancelation of his We All Shine Tour which has dates in Philadelphia (Feb. 14), Mesa, Arizona (Feb. 18), Atlanta (Feb. 24), Dallas (Feb. 26), Houston (Feb. 27), San Francisco (March 5), Santa Ana, Calif. (March 6), and Los Angeles (March 7).
