Police say Jefferey Reeves turned himself in to authorities Monday after accidentally shooting and killing 15-year-old Carlos Davis Sunday night.

According to officials, Davis was shot in the bedroom of a home on Mercury Drive around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Police now say that Reeves was playing with a pistol when the gun fired.

Investigators said that they believe there were around four to five juveniles in the bedroom at the time when the weapon discharged and hit the victim.

Davis was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle, where he died a little while later from his injuries.

Police believe that at least eight people in total were in the house at the time and that adults were home.

Officials say that Davis did not live at the home on Mercury Drive and that the homeowner was home at the time of the shooting.

Reeves also turned over the pistol used in the shooting when he turned himself in, police said.
