DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - The eastbound lanes of Highway 78 in DeKalb County have reopened after a fatal accident involving a pedestrian early Tuesday morning. The highway was closed for hours as authorities remained on scene investigating.
Georgia Department of Transportation officials said a man was struck before 6 a.m. just outside the Perimeter, in the eastbound lanes of Highway 78.
DeKalb County Police haven't said why the victim, who's described as a black male, was on the limited access highway, and they aren't sure whether this was a hit and run or if the driver remained on scene.
A number of vehicles could be seen at the accident location, including a semi and tow truck that was hauling U.S. Post Office vehicles. A motorcycle was allowed to leave.
All eastbound lanes of Highway 78 were closed for hours due to the investigation. At one point Tuesday morning, traffic was stopped at the North Druid Hills exit, and I-285 traffic wasn't allowed to go east on 78.
