The incident began around 5 a.m. Monday when Atlanta Police tried to pull over the driver of a car with a stolen tag. That driver, according to investigators, refused to stop. A few minutes later, the Georgia State Patrol joined the chase, using several pit maneuvers to ram the car from the side and force the driver off the road.

Authorities got the car stopped. A trooper got out of the car, but the driver of the stolen vehicle tried to keep moving.

At some point, the trooper opened fire. Even after he was shot, the driver kept going. Investigators said he made it about a half mile off the interstate to a side road along Central Avenue, where Atlanta Police stopped his car. He got out and ran from police, but they were able to finally stop and arrest him.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the trooper involved in the shooting wasn't hurt. The driver of the other car, a 29-year-old man, is listed in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
