Child found safe after mother carjacked in southwest Atlanta

Atlanta Police are searching for the man who held up a mother and her 5-year-old daughter at gunpoint and stole her car on Sunday.

The victim and her daughter were visiting a family member at the Village Carver Apartments. A suspect with a gun approached the mother and child and demanded they hand over the car keys. 

Police tell FOX 5 it was believed that the child was inside a white Infiniti when the car was stolen, but the mother did not realize the 5-year-old was able to get out of the vehicle. The mother and daughter ran off in separate directions. 

The child was quickly found in the 800 block of Moury Avenue and was reunited with her mother.

The child was not harmed. 

Police are continuing to investigate.
