The Raleigh Police Department said one of their officers was shot multiple times after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Western Blvd. and Schaub Drive around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the officer was rushed to surgery with multiple injuries including a gunshot wound to the neck. Early Thursday morning, Raleigh Police said on Twitter the officer was out of surgery.

"RPD is grateful for all of the support from the various law enforcement agencies, the surgeons and medical staff, and the community," the police department said. "We ask that everyone continue to pray for the officer and his family."

Police took one person into custody almost immediately, but a massive manhunt was launched for the second suspect, who was arrested about an hour later.

Investigators believe the pair were part of an earlier carjacking. Their names have not yet been released.

The department has not yet released the name of the officer.
