It happened Friday night. The cellphone video given to FOX 5 News by the family of the 9-year-old boy shows that even family members were trying to restrain the child.

The family alleges Athens-Clarke County Police Department used excessive force Friday night when they restrained the boy. It happened shortly after officers arrested the boy’s father following a domestic situation.

The police department said the officer’s body cam video told a different story. They said from the beginning, the boy was upset and emotionally distraught. He kept running towards the officers. They said family members attempted to restrain him numerous times to no avail.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department posted a video of the incident on their Facebook Monday afternoon which was taken from the officer's body camera.

The officers were not placed on administrative leave.
