Atlanta Police said a person of interest is now a suspect in the murder of a southeast Atlanta man. It happened Monday at the Alexan EAV apartments on Metropolitan Avenue.

Police said 30-year old Alex Newton came home for lunch and walked in on a man burglarizing his apartment. Police said the man shot Newton and took off. Police say a man caught on surveillance video is their prime suspect.  Investigators are trying to identify him.

Residents at the apartments say they won't rest until the gunman is caught. There have been several burglaries at the complex in recent weeks. After the deadly shooting, some say they want to move. Residents met with management Wednesday and demanded better security.

“Security cameras, 24-hour officers here, and a few other things we asked for,” said Judah Swilley, one of the residents.

Residents along with Newton’s family and friends have raised more than $20,000 for a crime stoppers reward in this case.

“We’re in this together, we’re going to get some justice, get some security and we’re going to find some peace,” said Swilley.
