DeKalb County Police are searching for a gunman accused of shooting a woman inside her apartment.

It happened around midnight at the Lakes Apartments on North Indian Creek Drive in Clarkston. Police said the bullet struck 41-year-old Ommou Keita in the back.

“I feel like it was the end of the world. Because it hit me deep, it hit me hard. I got up and I fell onto of my husband... he was right there,” Keita said.

The mother of five told FOX 5’s Aungelique Proctor blood started gushing from her wound, as she collapsed in her husband’s arms. Her children, ages 6, 9, and10, were all terrified as they watched in horror, and then rushed to hide in a back closet.

“They watched it, they were crying. They say they are not coming back here no more. Their daddy had to take them to their Auntie’s house,” the Guinea native said as she whence in pain.

The bullet is still in her back and she said doctors believe it will stay there indefinitely.

DeKalb County Police rushed to the scene, but detectives were not able to find a gunman. They ask anyone with information to give them a call.

Detectives have been canvassing the complex overnight, talking with neighbors to see if anyone saw or heard something that will help their investigation.
