Search for missing woman on Lake Lanier could take 2 weeks

For a fourth day, officials were back out on Lake Lanier on Wednesday searching for a woman who fell into the water Sunday afternoon.

According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, someone called Hall County Fire Services and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources around 4 p.m. to report a possible drowning between Port Royale and Old Federal Park.

Officials said a 31-year-old Madeline Sinagra jumped from a sailboat to go swimming but the boat drifted away from her.

A man, who still on the boat at the time, told authorities the woman became too tired to swim back to the boat. He also told authorities he went in the water to try to save the woman after failing to get a lifeline to her.

Once the woman went under water she did not return to the surface, the man said.

Authorities said the search could take up to two weeks.
