ATLANTA - An officer was injured Friday afternoon after giving chase to a possible shoplifting suspect in northeast Atlanta.
It happened at the Target store located at 1275 Caroline Street NE a little before 5 p.m. Police said a security guard at the store was transferring a suspect over to an officer, when the suspect took off running. The suspect ran into one of the officers near Holiday Avenue just off Seaboard Avenue, causing a small laceration to the officer’s face.
The officer was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.
The suspect, whose name and charges have not yet been released, was arrested.
The name of the injured officer was not immediately available Friday evening.
Police are investigating how the suspect was able to flee from custody.
