Police: Woman fired into car full of children
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A violent case of road rage ends with a woman driver pulling out a gun and firing at a vehicle filled with children. One bullet went through a 6-year-old girl's shirt.
Shawntel Queen said she was with her husband, Matt, their three children and a family friend in their Nissan Pathfinder during rush hour Thursday morning. Queen said they were near the intersection of East Roxboro and North Druid Hills in Brookhaven when they were cut off by another car.
Queen said her husband got out to talk to the other driver. Police said the other driver, Knokeisha Jones, pulled out a gun and opened fire.
"She shot two rounds off in the ground, aimed a little higher, shot 2 to 3 more rounds at my husband’s back and arm. The kids were screaming and hollering, he was trying to get back in the truck," said Queen.
Police said up to seven shots were fired. One bullet pierced the windshield and ricocheted off the roof. Queen said the bullet just missed her 3-year old.
'My son was sitting right here, it went above his head, and kept going through my 6-year-old daughter's shirt," said Queen.
Police took the shirt as evidence.
"We take any type of crime serious, this one particularly because it was a family the suspect shot at," said Brookhaven Police Officer Carlos Nino.
Police arrested Knokeisha Jones. She's charged with six counts of aggravated assault, one for each person in the vehicle, and three counts of cruelty to children.
"I'm just thankful she didn't kill my husband and she didn't kill me or my kids," said Queen.
