Police: Son finds father shot dead in home

Marietta Police call the death of a 59-year-old man a homicide and are still searching for his killer, after his son found him shot inside his home.

Police tell FOX 5, the victim's 24-year-old son called police at 4:31 Saturday afternoon after he discovered his father shot dead inside the home.

When police arrived to the scene on the 500 block of Hardage Farm Drive, they found 59-year-old Douglas Wayne Attaway dead.

For the past two days, detectives combed the scene and canvassed the neighborhood looking for clues. Family members have also been interviewed, police said.

The crime, many neighbors said, has rocked the quiet and affluent Hardage Farm community off Burnt Hickory Rd. NW and said the victim was a well-known, well-liked and long-time resident. Neighbors said they rarely if ever see police in the community.

"We are obviously looking to identify the person responsible for this crime," said Captain Chuck McPhilamy.

Investigators said the shooting was an isolated incident and there's no reason for neighbors to be concerned.

Detectives are asking neighbors to search through their surveillance systems for any clues, and report any information to Marietta Police investigators.
