The man found dead in a car near Stonecrest Mall Friday morning has been identified as a person reported missing on Tuesday, according to Atlanta Police.

The body of 27-year-old Sergio Ulysses Collins was found in DeKalb County Friday morning, but police believe he was shot to death in northwest Atlanta on October 17.

“What we understand is when this incident occurred, there were multiple people with him,” Capt. Reginald Moorman, Atlanta Police Department.

Police issued a missing person alert for Collins on October 17 as well. Investigators are still working on gathering evidence and locating a suspect. The alert sent on Tuesday stated authorities believed Collins was in danger.

“The info we have is that this incident happened in the vehicle and this is not a random act of violence,” said Moorman.

DeKalb County Police were called to the Turner Hill Road area around 4:30 a.m. and found Collins dead. Atlanta Police took over the case not long after.

Authorities believe the body and car were dumped at the mall.

Investigators believe there were witnesses to the showing and are encouraging them to come forward.
